Kirkcaldy Bands
The Kirkcaldy Bands of the '80s

Because music like ours shouldn't die

Cunzie Neuk

Kinghorn's premier venue, The Cunzie Neuk. I remember a great Ghost Train gig here, I also went to see Pallas here (remember them). Can you guess what this building is now?

Smithy's

Was this used as a venue too? I have a vague memory but could be wrong.

YMCA

The was only used as a venue on a few ocassions. I had remembered it as bigger! The summer 1986 Kirkcaldy Charities gig was held here. There is audio from this gig on the Surgical Wars page.

Hayfield Community Centre

Hayfield Comminity Centre. The pics of the Gimix in their white suits were taken here. Thanks to Mike Laing for this pic.

Dutch Mill

The Dutch Mill was here! Before I was old enough to go to pubs to see bands, I think the Dutch Mill, which was over the road from the rear of the railway station, used to have bands on. By the mid 1980's it had become re-branded as "The Clubhouse". The picture of Rob Jackson on the Crucified Brains page was taken there. Towards the late 1980's we'd hang out there a lot, I'm not sure why, it was not really our sort of pub at all, may have just been due to a lack of alternatives. This photo was taken by Michael Laing and he remembers getting caught by their "no leather jackets" rule. Am I imagining it, or did they once have Dutch Mill postcards? I seem to remember seeing one pinned the wall in the Clubhouse bar. I think, for a brief period, they began having bands here again in the late 1980's. I think I remember going to see some band there on the first day I voted in an election, in the 1987 general election, so it was an ocassional venue, it may have been a more frequently used venue earlier. I'm not sure why the building got pulled down, maybe it was unsafe, it had a strange design, I think it was trying to look like a real Dutch Mill.

Panthers

Panthers pictured in 2001 before it's transition into a rather horrible 1980's theme pub (of all things). Panthers was a very popular venue in the early 1990's. I remember seeing an early Darlingheart gig there and rather spoiling Ian's tape of it by singing over the end (I was rather drunk!). I was last in the place that was the venue for bands there at my mate Steve's 40th birthday and it's now a dance hall for the '80's pub. So, shame I can't remember it being a live music venue in the 1980's, just the early 1990's. If it was, I could make a rather pithy statement about it going from being an 80's venue to being an 80's nostalgia pub. I don't suppose they ever play the Ghost Train there anyway....
